A root canal treatment is used to remove infected or dead nerve tissue from inside a tooth.
Root canal treatment, also known as an endodentic treatment, is designed to correct problems of the dental pulp, which is the soft tissue inside a tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected from decay or injury to the tooth, the pulp must be removed to prevent the infection from spreading. To do this, a small hole is drilled into the tooth to remove the pulp. The hole is then thoroughly cleaned, filled and sealed to prevent any infection from spreading. The final step is the placement of a crown over the tooth to get it additional strength and to cosmetically match the rest of your teeth.
